Spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Behrouz Kamalvandi said on Monday that the visit of IAEA delegation to Iran aims at discussing the details of the understandings reached between Iran and the UN nuclear agency during a recent visit by the agency’s Director General Yukiya Amano to the country.
Kamalvandi added that the IAEA’s Deputy Director General and Head of the Department of Safeguards Tero Varjoranta, and the chief coordinator at the IAEA, Cornel Feruta, are among the delegates visiting Iran.
He further noted that the delegation on its one-day visit is scheduled to hold talks with officials from the AEOI and Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) as well as the country’s permanent representative to the agency.
According to the Iranian nuclear official, the delegation will leave Tehran early Tuesday.
Amano visited Iran on Thursday and met with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and Secretary of SNSC Ali Shamkhani.
In a statement on Friday after the visit, Amano said Iran and the IAEA have a “better understanding” in some areas but added that more work is required for the resolution of outstanding issues, including the so-called possible military dimensions (PMD), which he later said might be released by the end of 2015.
Iran and the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council plus Germany are currently negotiating in the Austrian city of Vienna to reach a comprehensive deal over Tehran's nuclear program. The negotiations is said to be concluded by Wednesday evening or early Thursday.
